Selecting the right insulation contractor for your job is an important decision. Aside from the initial steps of requesting quotes and doing online research, here are a few additional tips to help you choose a contractor:
Ask how their installers are paid: Does the company pay their installers by the hour, or by square footage? If they are paid by square footage, they might rush through the job on your house just so they can get on to the next one. Ideally you want to choose a contractor that pays their installers an hourly rate. This encourages the installer to take their time and focus on providing quality work.
Is the company building science savvy?: In this industry it is important to have knowledge of building science. A good insulation contractor will be able to educate you about your home’s overall energy performance and answer questions about topics like air sealing, mechanical ventilation, indoor air quality and more.
Are they focused on customer service?: A good contractor will prioritize great customer service and will return your calls in a timely manner, answer any questions, and adequately explain your quote.
Check experience and credentials: Is the company licensed and insured? What certifications do they have? When in doubt, just ask!
